Christian Aid is an international development organization established in 1945 by the British and Irish churches to help refugees in post-war Europe. It now works in around 25 countries, almost entirely through local partner organizations, on poverty, inequality, climate justice, gender justice and humanitarian response, and campaigns on the policies it holds responsible for poverty.
Christian Aid Ireland is a separate legal entity within the same family and recruits under its own name.
Christian Aid works through partners rather than direct implementation, so its country roles lean towards partnership management, programme quality, advocacy and accountability rather than direct service delivery. The London headquarters carries policy, campaigns, fundraising, communications and technical advisory work, and the organization recruits people of all faiths and none.
